INAV Public Service Announcement: Can't arm with plenty of satellites & 7.1.1 no baro issue
🔗 www.MrD-RC.com 🔗 www.patreon.com/MrD_RC
In this video we look at a couple of issue that have come up quite a lot recently.
The first issue is not being able to arm. Even with a good satellite lock, with at least 6 3D fixes, and a low HDOP. A rogue parameter setting may be causing you this problem.
Next we look at the default parameter setting that caused the release of INAV 7.1.2. This setting would turn off the use of the barometer, when in most cases it should be enabled.
TL;DW: The CLI commands are
set inav_use_gps_no_baro = off
set inav_max_eph_epv = 1000

    I believe something here is inaccurate. The 2 blue wires are 2.4 FSK but the 2 black wires are for the TWIN module, one is 2.4 FSK, other is 2.4 Lora.

    • @adam_mawz_maas
      @adam_mawz_maas 12 дней назад

      That's not correct. TWIN uses both the 2.4G FSK section (2 blue antennas) and the 2.4G LoRA section (2 black wires). There's 3 RF section on the board (900M LoRA, 2.4G FSK and 2.4G LoRA), TWIN and TANDEM both use 2 of the 3 RF sections present (FSK/2.4G LoRA and FSK/900M LoRA respectively), ACCESS/ACCST and R9 each use 1 (FSK and 900M respectively). | Each 2.4G RF section has 2 internal antennas and 1 external connector.

    •  12 дней назад

      Here is what I was just told by someone that reviewed the X20Pro for FrSky. The TWIN RF module has its own 2.4 FSK connection and in TWIN mode it does not use any connection from the FSK module. So in TWIN mode only the TWIN module is used.

    • @MrD
      @MrD 12 дней назад

      I guess it’s possible. But it wouldn’t make sense. The external twin module, and internal module for TWIN only radios will do this. But in the case of the X20 tri-protocol radios. It doesn’t really make sense. The TD Pro RF module is specifically made for these radios. So the best use of antennas and space would be to use the FSK third of the module for the FSK part of TWIN. That way it has antenna diversity. Then the TWIN third of the RF module would deal purely with 2.4GHz LoRa. Also with antenna diversity. Then it would blend in the same way that TANDEM does with the 900MHz third of the RF module and the FSK. I would understand the TWIN third having both FSK and LoRa. If there were 3 separate RF modules in the radio. Then the TWIN module could be the same module as used in radios like the TWIN X Lite. Saving on different BoMs, parts, and potentially production costs. But as it’s a custom module. It would make sense, from a performance perspective. The only way to know for sure would be to either hear from FrSky directly. Or to take that TD Pro RF module apart and see what ICs and tracks are on the TWIN third of the board.

    Hey Darren. It looks like V2.06 Lua is for ETHOS SR10+ and TD SR 8-12 receivers. I had both of these receivers exhibit a weird phenomena on a gas plane. Channels 7-10 had a serious jitter in them only when the engine was running. I thought it was ign interference, WRONG. It was the 2 independent Stabilizing Functions thing. It was cured by turning OFF the "Second Independent Stabilizing Functions" using the Lua Script V2.06. Its on page 2 of 2 !!!, which is hard to find to adjust. Thank you it is very helpful. Is it possible to bypass the 6 sats minimum for arming via the CLI? I tought 3 or 4 sats should be the minimum for 3D fix. The four firsts sats are easy to obtain but the 5th and 6th are so loooong to fix.

    • @HermyH66
      @HermyH66 17 дней назад

      The absolute safe minimum is 6 so stick with that.

    • @sebdewey
      @sebdewey 17 дней назад

      What security? I can fly with my plane without sat if I do the action of the sticks and it works for non-automated flight. 4 or 5 sats should be enough to have the information type altitude speed, finally I think.

    • @HermyH66
      @HermyH66 17 дней назад

      @@sebdewey That minimum is for the people that actually rely on RTH, you want a good home fix on RTH. For some simple speed readings it's also better to have many sats as it will improve the accuracy.

    • @sebdewey
      @sebdewey 17 дней назад

      Yes, if you rely on RTH you need many more sats than the minimum 3D fix. I think it could be a good idea to set the minimum sats following your flying style and aircraft.

    • @MrD
      @MrD 17 дней назад

      Flying without GNSS and flying with too few satellite locks are different things entirely. Without GNSS, you have no navigation modes. So the reliability of the GNSS fix doesn’t matter. For reliable navigational flight, the minimum locks you should have is 6. 5 you can get away with. But 4 gives bad data. 6 gives a small buffer before reaching the level where data is bad. It doesn’t take too long to get 6 sats locked. If they are taking a long time. Maybe you need to consider the position and/or quality of the GNSS module. As for relying on RTH. It may be that you need to rely on it, at the worst possible time. But, because arming has been forced it won’t work. For example, you have a video problem and stop receiving an image. RTH is the safest course of action here. Even if it is only for the time it takes your eyes to adjust to daylight outside the goggles. When you take back over LOS.

    Hey nice I did the right thing. Just have to say. Inav has came so far I started flying inav in the early days Been working on new build. For a year now. Life just happened so haven’t been able to finish it yet. I assume the same with you not having many videos. Is what it is bud. Good to see you back. I haven’t flew since last fall. Crazy last last year I flew over 6k miles. And nothing since. Plan on going today got some packs charged. It’s a sign from the fpv gods. That u uploaded this video. Thanks so much for all the help and work you have put into this. I would have never gotten this far without you. In your opinion what’s the best long range air frame? Don’t know if u remember me used to have pic of my dog instead of A

      Honestly, I’m loving the AR Pro at the moment. With my battery it has about 65-70 miles total range. Easy enough to with that setup too.

    Thank you! Changing subject a little, what is the benefit of using a tube to measure the wind? Does INAV do anything with this?

    • @senseisecurityschool9337
      @senseisecurityschool9337 17 дней назад

      Currently, INAV primarily uses the pitot mostly for the airspeed displayed on the OSD. Full-size pilots will be accustomed to paying close attention to airspeed. INAV, and model planes generally, are designed to be perfectly flyable without paying any attention to airspeed, so the pitot isn't used much - yet. It may be used more in future versions of INAV.

    • @b14ckyy
      @b14ckyy 16 дней назад

      As sensei said, mostly for OSD but Airspeed is actively used if you use the Dead Reckoning navigation on GPS loss. Then Pitot is actively used to estimate the position change and navigate back home without GPS (with some error building up over time)

    Very useful video. Currently I am having issues with an AtomRc Dolphin torque roll on auto launch. No matter what mode I select iNav cannot catch it in time to prevent a roll into ground. Any suggestions welcome. Throttle set to 70%

    • @MrD
      @MrD 4 дня назад

      Are you 100% sure it’s torque roll. If you’re using the stock setup, it seems unlikely. The Dolphin is pretty easy to add unwanted movement on the throw. So it’s worth checking that. When you say no matter which mode you select. Are you using autolaunch? If so, the mode you select only activates once the launch is complete. During autolaunch, it will always use manual. Have you autotuned the Dolphin yet? If so, was it in acro with prolonged full stick defections with pauses? If you’ve not yet autotuned. Angle may not have enough authority to correct the unwanted angles in the launch. To help with initial launches. You can set the throw in acro mode to be around 80% of the throw in manual mode by adjusting the FF. There are quite a few different things that could cause issues on launch. If you can. Maybe raise the problem with DVR video and/or external video of the launch. Yo could do this on the INAV Fixed Wing Group Facebook group or Discord served. Links can be found on INAVFixedWingGroup.com.

      @@MrD thank you for the detailed reply, most helpful. Launching in manual mode with full beans definitely resulted in a full left roll. I had auto tuned in Acro but might not have waited long enough between slick movements. I solved the issue by auto launching in Horizon Mode, changing from no motor spin on arming to 15% throttle, not to high so if I do catch a finger it’s not brutal, and reducing max launch throttle following your RUclips method. It definitely launches better when there is a head wind, not so good in a dead calm.

    Hi Darren, is there a way to setup the calibration with the receiver facing pin to the front of the plane? The cables in my plane won’t allow the pins facing the back of the plane. (Archer Plus SR8 and/or 10) BTW love your video's, they are very informative and helpful!

    On Ethos X20S Firmware version 1.5.9 I was able to copy files over using your instructions but cannot select it as there is no 'Play Track' option, allowing choice of one of the files I've copied. I see the 'play audio' option (which doesn't have choice to set file) but there is not a 'Play Track' option. Any idea how I can enable 'Play Track' and File selection to show up please?

    I know we are talking about auto lunch...but is there any video that explains how auto land decides where to land respectively to the home position?

    • @MrD
      @MrD 4 дня назад

      There are 3 automatic landings. 1. Emergency landing. This will just land immediately. You don’t get a say in how it lands. 2. Land after RTH or FS. This loiters down at the home (or safehome) point until it almost reaches the ground. At which point it will level off and land. The only control you have here is where the home/safehome position is. Everything else is automated. Including the level flight vector. 3 Fixed wing autoland. This is a new feature in INAV. You set a landing strip on a safehome, safe approach direction, approach distances and altitudes. It does the rest. If fixed wing autoland can be used. It will use that instead of option 2. Full information can be found at github.com/iNavFlight/inav/blob/master/docs/Fixed%20Wing%20Landing.md

    I got this FRSKY 20S and I wanted to program this thing so I could fly my RC model here in my ranch. not to fly a SpaceX or NASA rocket into orbit. Cause im not a rocket scientist… I’m gonna return this transmitter tomorrow. This is just a bad nightmare. Couldn’t even find those menus. Very frustrating to try to switch to this radio brand. What’s the best brand ? The old one JR that works wonders. Not going thru this.

    Just installed this in a nano goblin, seems to be pretty great for that purpose. I'm sure people have figured it out but it's worth noting that the cable with the connector not installed is for the GPS, not the HD vtx, they specifically left the connector off so that you can install the wires in the order needed for whatever gps you are using. (in my case an hglrc m100 with compass, which works flawlessly). The lack of a vtx power switch is a bummer, especially since I am using digital, but I have been just using a usb power source ( portable phone charger) plugged into the board, without the flight batt connected, to let the gps get locked without powering the vtx and risking overheating. Then plug in the flight batt and disconnect the external ups power to keep the board powered, or vise versa, the gps will almost instantly lock again if the board is only powered of for a second...and off you go. So far have had no issues. If that is a no-no for some reason I'd love to hear why, as I am by no means an expert.

    • @MrD
      @MrD 22 дня назад

      Using a power bank to power the GPS but not the VTX is fine. It will allow the cold start to take place. The switch to the main battery for the flight. I know quite a few people who do this. There’s not problem in doing it. It would just be nicer if you didn’t have to. Happy flying

    I don't know if I made some mistakes but after updating my Taranis X9D to firmware 2.1.0 I'm not able anymore to set internal module to D8. I can reduce channels range to 8 for having lower latency but the only mode I actually can select for my internal XJT are D16 and LR12. Any hint? thank you

      Did you also update OpenTX? If so, did you enable the EU option? If you did, just turn it off and re-flash OpenTX. That’s the part that hides D8, not flashing the RF module firmware.

    Hi. Thank you for this video and the article on your website. Could you tell us if we should do this with or wihout VTX and servos powered during the calibration? If we add offset calculation, is the value drop to zero amps even if we power the VTX and ESC or the value would be greater than zero? Thank you.

    After having reviewed all the previous viewer comments, I too finally understand your process. I was initially concerned that all you were doing was killing the throttle servo’s movement. The use of the servo was a little confusing, but “that” was meant to demonstrate the passing of “signal" to the iBEC/Opto Kill. Viewers can’t see you physically triggering the backside buttons, and may take a few rewinds to pick that out. Many flyers I know are accustomed to the standard two-position “H” switch as a killer for ESC or Petrol signals. With FrSky making the H switch momentary it gets confusing. I’m also new to FrSky and your video content “is” helpful. Thanks!

    Limited Edition not Special Edition ... maybe that's why you can't buy them anymore. Radiomaster miss the point of coloured plastic. E.g. Visibility, heat absorbtion. Also the high gloss ones are painted.

    • @MrD
      @MrD 22 дня назад

      You would need to follow the part in the video for switching the throttle. However, all you would need to do is remove the ratchet and add the spring tension to the throttle. Rather than transfer it to the settings to the other side.
